About the author: Arlin V. Peterson, EdD. is Professor Emeritus at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas [now retired]. He holds a doctorate in counseling from Washington State University. He was a licensed professional counselor, a licensed marriage and family therapist, and is certified in family mediation. He has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at Texas Tech University and the Texas Counseling Association Professional Writing Award.
